Energy for Industry has once again been nominated as a finalist for the EECA Energywise Awards – this time in the Renewable Energy category for its innovative project using landfill gas to provide heat to Nelson Hospital.

11 October, 2007

A record 27 companies and organisations have been chosen from over 150 entrants to go through to the finals of the 2007 EECA Energywise Awards.

Entries have almost doubled from last year, reflecting an increasing focus across all sectors on saving resources and increasing profits through energy efficiency, said Mike Underhill, Chief Executive of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA).

“It highlights that smart energy management is something successful businesses and organisations now see as part of their everyday planning,” said Mr Underhill.

“All the successful finalists have saved money and resources by factoring efficiency or renewable energy principles into what they do.”

The finalists cover nine categories and are all in the running for EECA’s prestigious Supreme Award for outstanding performance.

The awards are the premier celebration of achievement and innovation in New Zealand’s energy efficiency and renewable energy sectors.

The winners will be announced at the EECA Energywise Awards function in Auckland on Thursday 1 November.

Energy for Industry won both the Innovation and Energy Supplier categories at the 2006 Awards for its biomass heat plant at Winstone Pulp International and cogeneration plant at Auckland Hospital respectively.
